THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT CHIISM
God is Supreme reality, distinctive and absolute according to many texts. In our monotheistic religion, ours is called Chineke(The creator), Isi na Odu ( original absolute), Chineke is Oka Aka (at the root of phenomena) as also in Confucian and Taoist metaphysical texts, and a reality called Nirvana or Suchness in Mahayana Buddhism, Chineke surpasses any being, heavenly or human. Other passages, especially from the Hindu tradition, identify many deities but recognize them to be assorted materialization of the One that is beyond any name. Or, in the case of Native American religion, the numerous spiritual armies are one by virtue of their unity in action. And so it is with Chineke…the One, the Alpha and Omega, the Supreme Consciousness.
“Olisa nwe Amara, Chineke the divine, the good and the all knowing You are the one Divine Mind; you are the Spirit who holds the unity of humanity in your hands, giving us breath, free will, dwelling in each one of us watching over all works, the perceiver, the one and only, free from tainted qualities. You are Chineke…Spirit without beginning and without end. As we
honor ourselves, we honor you!”
