IGBO PROVERBS~~~~THE LIZARD

Ngwere Si Ma Madu Ajaghi Ya, O Jaa Onwe Ya!

This proverb deals with self esteem. “The Lizard says that if no one will praise him, he will praise himself”. The lizard fell from the tree, looked about to see if anyone saw his feat. Since nobody did, he nodded his head and said” yes I am bad! I am so tough! I am all that and then some!” You cannot wait around for people to validate you. You have the responsibility to praise yourself for the good you do, and the achievements you achieve. Who you are is a direct result of who you believe you are. Nobody can change or minimize you if you do not let them. Only you can do that. The important thing is to understand that you do not have the right to minimize someone else’s existence to validate yourself.
