IGBO PROVERBS~~~~THE MOTHER HEN

IGBO PROVERBS~~~~THE MOTHER HEN

Ukwu Okuko Zoro Nwa Ya Anaghi Egbu Ya!

When you see a mother hen hoarding her chicks across the way, she steps on them in the process, clucking frantically to them to keep up. This action never kills them…it saves their lives and teaches them survival skills. Many children never really appreciate a mother’s fuss. Mothers demand that their children conduct themselves in an honorable and dignified manner at all times in relation to their parents, colleagues and the community as a whole. Though they “chirp” in disagreement and even in anger, everyday after they are grown, they remember that their mother’s tender loving guidance did not kill them and helped them to become responsible adults. We are or will become adults and will remember fondly that like the mother hen, Mama’s “Steps” did not hurt us…it helped us to survive.

Please remember Mom on Mother’s day!

Very meaningful proverb! It helps me relate to situations I face as well. I am sure this will help caretakers, including mothers, feel appreciated for their efforts.

Daalu! Best wishes to the mothers in your life too!
